This mixed media portrait was created after the passing of the accomplished singer. It was inspired by the funeral photos showing Aretha Franklin in a bed of pastel roses.
The main focus of the drawing is the two different mediums and their contrast. The artwork consists of two separate layers. The top layer displays colourful roses; the bottom layer shows the black and gold pointillism portrait. By mixing these two distinct mediums, I wanted to achieve a look similar to collage. The two mixed mediums are used as an analogy of life and death.
