Holiday Drawing – Pomegranate

Original drawing, ink pen on paper, A4, 2025

An original ink drawing of a pomegranate, made from a photograph I took while travelling in Türkiye.

Pomegranates were one of my favourite discoveries on the trip — I loved seeing the fruit growing on the trees and the beautiful contrast between the deep red fruit, green leaves and warm colours of the surrounding landscape. The fruit wasn’t quite ripe yet; I actually picked one cracked pomegranate from the tree and discovered that it was far less sweet than I had hoped!

For this drawing, I translated the photograph into detailed black ink, focusing on the shapes, textures and character of the fruit and foliage. Working in monochrome gives the image a different feeling from the original photograph, while leaving the possibility of imagining all those colours.

I loved the colours in the reference photograph so much that I may return to this drawing one day and make a coloured version.

Comes without a frame; will be shipped in a postal tube or a cardboard envelope.
