Holiday Drawing – Sheep Under A Tree

Original drawing, ink pen on paper, A4, 2025

An original ink drawing based on a photograph I took during a trip to Turkey in autumn 2025.

I always take drawing and painting materials with me when I travel, imagining all the things I might make along the way — but somehow I rarely find the time to actually draw on holiday. Instead, I take lots of photographs, collecting little moments and places that I know I’d like to return to later in the studio.

This drawing captures a group of sheep resting beneath an old olive tree, taking shelter from the intense summer sun. I was immediately drawn to the peacefulness of the scene — the animals gathered in the shade, the ancient tree and the quiet landscape around them.

There was something wonderfully idyllic about this simple moment, and I wanted to capture that feeling in an ink drawing. Working in black and white allowed me to focus on the shapes, textures and details of the tree, the sheep and the surrounding landscape, while keeping the calm atmosphere of the original photograph.

Comes without a frame; will be shipped in a postal tube or a cardboard envelope.
