Mermaid Bubble

About the project

Size: approx. 420mm x 540mm

Medium: Ink and graphite pen on paper

Year: 2020

Since I was a child, I am fascinated by the fairy tale ‘The little mermaid’ by Hans Christian Anderson. And as I get older, I find it more and more intriguing. It’s dark, horrific and merciless with a questionable ending. But still, it carries a valuable lesson and gives us an entrance to a world full of imagination. Sometimes, another world is all we need to hide away from reality and keep ourself sane.

‘Mermaid bubble’ is a very detailed ink drawing that depicts a more realistic version of a mermaid. To the contrary to the Walt Disney version, the mermaid presented here is not only a preditor but also physically disproportional.
